Have you ever been to a baby sprinkle before? Has anyone thrown one for you? I just heard about the new trend last year. Instead of a full-fledged shower after baby no. 1, friends are throwing casual get-togethers or “sprinkles.” No giant gatherings and games, just friends getting together to celebrate the mom-to-be.
My fellow Handmade Detroiter Beth is about to have her second baby and we threw her a sprinkle last month. The Handmade Detroit gang gathered for lunch and to share handmade and vintage gifts. I made a few treats for us for the special event.
Just for fun, I made sprinkle packets for the guests. I used a “Happy Birthday” stamp, but cut off the birthday word. Placed in a glassine bag and sealed with washi tape, there was more than one smiling face when I presented them to each of the gals.
I didn’t bring a flower corsage for the mom. Instead, I made a oversized brooch out of some cassette tape snuggle flannel, diaper pin quilting fabric, and hot pink felt. A hot-glued pinback made it easy to wear. The brooch was wrapped in the same style as the sprinkle packets.
The happy family is going to be surprised by the sex of the baby, so I made practical gifts for mom to use. I made a bib with the cassette tape snuggle flannel backed with a corresponding match.
I also made a rag quilt with this favorite fabric. The easy care of the quilt will hopefully be very useful for on-the-go activities.
Have you ever hosted a sprinkle? What did you do?
